Upcoming Events at MS & Parkinson's

Dear Whanau,
Welcome to our February Newsletter. We hope you have all had a wonderful holiday period and that you are back into moving, grooving and socialising in your groups and at the Braintree Cafe.
We are pleased to see everyone back for our exercise classes. Remember to book your classes in advance to avoid disapoinment and missing out on your class. You can book classes 4 weeks in advance, if you are unsure of how many sessions you have booked then check in with Leesa at the Braintree Reception or give us a ring. We are always happy to help out.
In exciting news we have two new offerings both starting in February:
- First, in conjunction with ARA, we will be offering osteopathy at Braintree on Wednesdays from the 26th of February. We anticipate that these highly subsidised sessions will be very popular so make sure that you book in early. These sessions are open to anyone connected to MSPC as we know there are a lot of carers, partners, and whanau that would benefit from this. If osteopathy is new to you, then read more about it below or talk to one of our friendly staff about it.
- Second, we have a new voice and communication class starting at the end of February on a Thursday afternoon. Details are being worked out as we write, but we know it will be open to everyone... and it will be fun!

An Introduction to Osteopathy at Braintree
|
Hello!
My name is Zoe Steele, and I am a senior academic staff member, lecturer and clinical educator at Ara Institute of Canterbury in the osteopathy programme. Although my accent is Canadian, I trained to be an osteopath in Australia and worked in private practice alongside teaching at the University of South Australia, before moving to Christchurch to teach at Ara 3.5 years ago. I hold a double Bachelor of Clinical Science (Human Structure and Function and Osteopathic Studies), as well as a Master of Osteopathic Medicine, a NZ certificate in Adult & Tertiary Teaching, a Diploma of Clinical Pilates and have worked as an Integrative Breathing Therapy practitioner.

Osteopathy is a system of hands-on assessment and treatment for a wide range of conditions. Osteopaths use a variety of techniques to correct physical conditions such as back and neck pain, headache, physical injuries to bones, joints and muscles and many other physical and functional disorders. Osteopaths have a particular interest in evidence-based diagnosis and treatment of the neuro-musculoskeletal system, and in pain management. Osteopaths are registered by the Osteopathic Council of New Zealand as primary healthcare practitioners, which covers a broad range of health services in the community including diagnosis and treatment, health education and disease prevention and screening.

I am so pleased to be able to offer osteopathy at Braintree in conjunction with MS and Parkinson’s Canterbury. Our final year (postgraduate) students will be able to assess and treat you under close supervision in one of the rooms just behind reception at Braintree. Appointments will be 30-45mins long, with treatment provided in a manner that suits you, either on our treatment table, or seated in a chair. We will ask you some questions about your health and get to know why you are here to see us. You are more that welcome to bring a support person or caregiver with you, and we recommend that you wear comfortable clothing.
I look forward to meeting you soon.
