To all of you who have already volunteered, Thank you! With your help, we have added a lot more collection spots to our roster and we have many new volunteers helping us out.
If you are unable to help, then please consider donating to our cause. 88% of the money needed to run our organisation comes from donations, grants, events, and bequests. Last year we saw a 39% increase in newly referred clients so there is a huge demand for our services.
Another way to support our cause is to spread the word about MS and Parkinson's and everything we do. Raising awareness about these conditions and telling people about your journey reminds people that these conditions exist and enables them to take action.
If you see some of our fabulous volunteers collecting on the 6 and 7th, then please thank them for their fantastic work. Our organisation could not exist without their help!

We have welcomed Sarah Kinley and Elly Jo into the MSPC fold, both undertaking project work on strengthening our internal systems.  Elly has been working on ‘following the money’, giving us greater clarity about how it is received, recorded, and distributed – this has included working between three different systems, and four different parts of the business. Elly is making recommendations on how this information can flow more freely, and putting in place standard operating procedures that (hopefully) anyone can follow.

Sarah is looking at the service delivery of the Health and Wellbeing team.  As we have moved from a clinical to a holistic/ hauora offering, the way we interact the people we support also needs to transition.  As an example,  we no longer offer nurse services but our time allocation has not caught up with this – dealing with the whole person takes longer than a clinical consult!  We are a charity with limited resources and an increasing number of people who would like to access our services.  Both Elly and Sarah are suggesting improvements about how we flex to support all those who need us, at the right time in the right way.  Big mahi!

Highlight

MSPC have been busy linking the good we do to the wider community.  It's great for people to know about us – about how we can help them or a loved one now, or in the future.  It's also good for people to know about us so that we get support for our Annual Appeal, Golf event, and in donations and bequests.  Lastly, it is good for people to know about us so that our funders know we are making good stuff happen with the funds they are entrusting us with.  We like being out and about, gathering intel, coming up with new schemes, ideas and fabulous initiatives to keep MSPC evolving, and making our offerings better for you – the people we support.

This month has been busy – and below a snapshot of what has been happening:

Kirsten spoke to Selwyn Business owners, part of the BNI network.  Her presentation was a balance between talking about MSPC and MS which was a cause close to many of their hearts, and what they had requested with a surprising number of personal connections in the group. Along with a convivial breakfast and the presentation, Kirsten received a $1000 donation from the group and promises from several members to help MSPC further.

Amin helped organise a most successful visit from the Parkinson’s NZ (PNZ) to MSPC at BrainTree, where our Advisers Cathy and Kirsten met with Tammy Ramsey-Evans, the PNZ Nurse Consultant, and Travis from the MSPC Board chatted with the Chair of their Board, Christine Mercer.  Also in attendance was Andew Bell their CEO, and Kevin Ramshaw a Trustee of PNZ.  Amin followed that up in the evening assisting the Neurological Foundation’s visit of Professor Bas Bloem  – including organising MSPC intern students to help with the 320 registrations.

On the exercise front, both Linda and Amin have been instrumental in helping create two new classes in Ashburton, alongside the team from the Ashburton District Council.  Jenny, their team leader, and her team travelled up from Ashburton to observe our three Monday morning classes in action.  As Jenny wrote “it was invaluable to observe your classes in action, and we took away some excellent insights.”  So, plans are afoot to be able to regularly work with the Team down there on programme development, as well as being able to point people we support in their direction.
